Andy Murray To Skip Wimbledon-2024 Singles Event

Two-time Olympic champion in 2012 and 2016, former world No.1 British tennis player Andy Murray will not participate in the singles event at the 2024 Wimbledon tournament.

As reported by ITV, the 37-year-old Brit will only compete in doubles together with his older brother Jamie. Murray's recent operation to remove a spinal cyst led to this decision. His first-round opponent in the Grand Slam tournament was supposed to be Czech player Tomas Machac.

Murray, a double Wimbledon champion in 2013 and 2016, is skipping the singles event this year due to health reasons. Wimbledon 2024 is taking place in the London suburbs from July 1 to 14. The current defending singles champion is the world No. 3, Spanish player Carlos Alcaraz. Injuries have led to the absence of world No. 3 women's player and Australian Open 2024 winner Aryna Sabalenka from Belarus and the 20-time Grand Slam winner and former world No.1 men's player Rafael Nadal from this year's Wimbledon.
