Slovakia claimed both the singles and doubles match against the favorites the USA with Viktoria Kuzmova leading the way.
WTA’s 175th ranked player Viktoria pulled off a huge upset against USA tennis stalwart Shelby Rogers as the Slovak prevailed 6-4, 6-4 in the singles match, showing her full arsenal of power hitting.
Then Viktoria combined with her compatriot Tereza Mihalikova for a win in an intense doubles match. After taking the first set 6-2, USA’s Coco Vandeweghe and Caroline Dolehide fought back in the second set 7-6 to tie the game. The thrilling game continued in the decide tiebreaking set where the Slovakian pair prevailed 12-10 in a back-and-forth affair.
