Six-Time Olympic Champion Chris Hoy Reveals Terminal Cancer Diagnosis

Six-time Olympic cycling champion Sir Chris Hoy has disclosed that he has been diagnosed with terminal prostate cancer. This news emerged from excerpts of his memoirs published in The Times.

The British cyclist shared that he learned about his diagnosis a year ago. In September 2023, Hoy consulted a doctor due to shoulder pain, and the subsequent examination showed a tumor. A follow-up evaluation revealed that he is in the final stage of prostate cancer, which has metastasized to his bones. Doctors identified tumors in his shoulder, pelvis, thigh, spine, and rib.

Hoy stated that, according to his doctors’ forecasts, he has between two to four years left to live.

The 48-year-old athlete boasts six gold medals and one silver medal from the Olympic Games, along with 11 victories at world championships. He was knighted in 2009.

In September 2024, 18-year-old Swiss cyclist Muriel Furrer passed away from injuries sustained in a fall.
