Tournament organizer PGL announced its plans to host an esports tournament in Poland in 2027.
The announcement was made on the operator's social media platforms, revealing that the championship will take place from January 13 to January 25, 2027, marking a decade since the PGL Major Krakow 2017. This major event significantly impacted the esports community, with Gambit Esports taking the title. The event took place 3461 days ago.
Invitations to the upcoming tournament will be based on the Valve Ranking System (VRS). Additionally, players will have a chance to qualify through open qualifiers. Further details will be announced later.
Previously, the esports portal HLTV published a letter from 22 organizations directed at Valve. In this joint appeal, representatives of well-known teams requested changes to the tournament ecosystem that was first introduced in 2025, citing significant flaws that could lead organizations to withdraw from the tactical shooter Counter-Strike 2.
Team representatives aim to assist Valve in strengthening the ecosystem following the withdrawal of partnership leagues from tournament organizers BLAST and ESL. They are advocating for the reinstatement of open qualifiers for majors and the removal of qualification placements based on regional rankings (VRS).
