The sports director of ski jumping for the Norwegian Ski Federation, Jan-Erik Aalbu, has acknowledged an attempt at cheating by the Norwegian team during the World Championships in Trondheim.
Jan-Erik Aalbu
We have cheated. We have tried to deceive the system. The support team has told us that on Friday, they chose to sew in a reinforced thread into the jumping suit of Johann Forfang and Marius Lindvik. This was done fully aware that it was not within the rules, but in the belief that it would not be detected by the FIS equipment controller.
Aalbu expressed his intention to investigate the situation by asking the right questions and having discussions with the athletes, and he is ready to fully cooperate with FIS.
He expressed shock and disappointment regarding what happened, stating that it contradicts his principles and has let down fans, sponsors, FIS, and the championship organizers. Aalbu also extended an apology on behalf of the Norwegian community.
