Dominican baseball player Juan Soto has made history by signing the largest contract in sports history with the New York Mets for a staggering 15 years.
Since joining Major League Baseball (MLB) in 2018, Soto reached the World Series last season, where his team, the New York Yankees, lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Reports indicate that the Mets will pay Juan Soto $765 million over the 15-year deal, which translates to an average annual salary of $51 million. During the final ten years of the agreement, his annual salary could rise to $55 million, bringing the total value of the contract to over $800 million.
The previous record for highest salary belonged to baseball player Shohei Ohtani, who signed a 10-year contract with the Dodgers worth $700 million.
