Former UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland has reacted to comments made by his coach, Eric Nicksick, who earlier expressed dissatisfaction with Strickland's performance at UFC 312 and asked him to choose his goal in MMA: whether he wants to make money or aim to become a champion again.
In the main event of UFC 312 on February 9 in Sydney, Australia, Dricus Du Plessis defeated Sean Strickland by unanimous decision, successfully defending his middleweight title.
I like Eric. He's a friend of mine and he's going to continue to be a friend of mine. Will he probably be in my corner? Probably not. We have so many great guys at Xtreme. But that entire fight camp was just a struggle. ... We all have excuses as to why we didn't win, or why we won or we shouldn't have won. We all f---ing have excuses, and they don't f---ing matter.
Strickland and Du Plessis had previously faced each other at UFC 297 in January 2024, where Dricus won by split decision. Strickland’s record includes 29 wins and seven losses while Du Plessis holds a record of 23 wins and two losses.
