Poirier Contemplates Retirement After Loss To Makhachev

Top American UFC lightweight fighter Dustin Poirier said he will make a decision on his future career in the coming weeks.

Dustin Poirier
I can't say I'll never fight again, but I just don't know the reason. What am I going to fight for? It has to be for something. And maybe that's something I'll realize in the coming weeks. I'm leaning towards being done. Especially getting the title fight.

The 35-year-old Poirier previously stepped into the octagon in March at UFC 299, defeating Benoit Saint- Denis by knockout in the second round. He has 30 wins and nine losses on his record, and one fight was ruled a no contest.

Makhachev, 32, last fought at UFC 294 in October 2023, defeating Alexander Volkanovski by first-round knockout. He has 26 wins and one loss under his belt.
