Irish fighter Ian Garry expressed his frustration regarding the UFC's matchmaking decision to give Jack Della Maddalena a title fight against welterweight champion Belal Muhammad instead of him, after Shavkat Rakhmonov was injured.
Madalena and Muhammad will meet in the main event of UFC 315, set for May 11 in Montreal, Canada.
I rang my agent when he told me about this news, and I was livid – still am to this day. I’m not fighting for a world title because I’m coming off a loss, and they’re giving it to a guy who’s been injured for a year, and they think that’s more exciting, but they’re wrong. That’s Okay. Don’t worry. I’ll get you all. You’re all mine.
Garry's last fight was against Shavkat Rakhmonov at UFC 310 in December 2024, where he lost by unanimous decision after going the full distance.
He made his UFC debut in November 2021 against American fighter Jordan Williams, winning that match by knockout in the first round. Garry holds a record of 15 wins and one loss.
