Virgil van Dijk, the 33-year-old Dutch defender and captain of Liverpool, confirmed in an interview with BBC that there has been progress in contract negotiations with the club.

He has played for the Reds since January 2018, appearing in 313 matches, scoring 26 goals, and providing 13 assists. His current contract with the team expires at the end of this season, with Transfermarkt estimating his transfer value at 28 million euros.

Earlier reports indicated that Liverpool plans to extend the contract of forward Mohamed Salah.
