Peruvian footballer José Hugo de la Cruz Mesa tragically died after being struck by lightning during a match, as reported by Relevo.
The incident occurred on Sunday, November 3, during a game between Juventud Bellavista and Familia Choca in Huancayo. The player was quickly hospitalized, but the medical staff couldn’t save his life. Another player, Juan Choca, is in critical condition.
In December of last year, a 21-year-old footballer died after a lightning strike during a match in Brazil. A similar incident occurred in Indonesia in February of this year.
