Kenya’s Rising Starlets will start the journey towards qualification for a second successive FIFA Under-17 Girls’ World Cup, when they play Uganda in the second round of qualification. The Kenyan girls made history last year, becoming the first ever Kenyan team, male or female, at whichever age category, to qualify for the World Cup.
And now, having tasted the prestige and glory of playing at a World Cup, the team is determined to make it back to back qualifications.
Speaking to marvelbetgames.com ahead of the first leg match against neighbors Uganda, Coach Mildred Cheche says the players are still hungry for the same qualification feeling and are ready to give their all to make it back.
The excitement is still fresh in our minds and in our hearts and the girls are very hungry to qualify. The ones who were there last year want to go again and the new ones want to have a taste. So yes, we are dreaming of making it to the World Cup for the second time in a row and I have the belief that we can do it. Not just with what is in our hearts but the talent as well that we have in the team.
Kenya, by virtue of seeding, has been exempted from playing the first round. They play Uganda in the first leg of the second round in Kampala, before hosting the return fixture.
A win against Uganda will take them to the final qualification round, where they will meet the winner between Cameroon and Ethiopia.
