Messi Rises to Second All-Time Goal Scorer for National Teams After Ronaldo

Lionel Messi, the 37-year-old forward for Inter Miami, has moved into second place on the list of all-time top scorers for national teams.

In a home match during the 10th round of the South American qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup against Bolivia, which ended with a score of 6-0, Messi scored three goals and assisted twice.

With this hat-trick, Messi surpassed Iranian football legend Ali Daei, with whom he previously shared the second position, both with 109 goals for their national teams. Messi's tally now stands at 112 goals for Argentina in 189 matches.

The first place is still occupied by 39-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo, who has 133 goals in 216 matches for the Portugal national team.

It has also recently been reported that FC Barcelona are still paying Messi his salary.
