Lionel Messi, captain of MLS club Inter Miami and the Argentinian national team, who won the World Cup in 2022, shared his thoughts on Kylian Mbappe, forward for Real Madrid and the French national team.
Mbappé has the peace of mind that he won the 2018 World Cup. Even though it’s crazy, what he did in the final, scored four goals and still didn’t become champion. The same thing happened to me in 2014, it was torture for me. You also look back and think, ‘I could’ve won two.'
The 26-year-old Mbappe, a product of Monaco’s academy, was a winner and the best young player at the 2018 World Cup, as well as the top scorer at the 2022 World Cup. Since June 2024, he has been playing for Real Madrid, under a contract that runs until the end of June 2029.
In the 2024/2025 season, Mbappe played in 29 matches in La Liga (scoring 22 goals and providing three assists) and 14 matches in the UEFA Champions League (7 goals and 1 assist). Transfermarkt currently estimates the forward at 170 million euros.
On March 19, in an interview with Le Parisien, Mbappe shared that he does not consider Manchester City midfielder and Spain national team member Rodri, the 2024 European Champion, to be a Ballon d'Or level player. In an interview with AS on March 22, Mbappe expressed his admiration for Zinedine Zidane, the 1998 World Champion and Euro 2000 winner, and former French national team midfielder.
