According to the Guardian, the authorities in the United Kingdom are planning a legal action against former Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich regarding the distribution of funds received from the sale of the club.
Previously, reports indicated disagreements between the British government and Abramovich regarding the use of the proceeds from the club's sale. Abramovich owned Chelsea since the summer of 2003. In March 2022, the UK imposed sanctions on the businessman due to the war in Ukraine, leading to the freezing of his assets.
In May of the same year, after receiving special permission, Abramovich completed the sale of the club for £4.25 billion. The new owner is a consortium led by American businessman Todd Boehly. £2.5 billion of that sum was paid for the club's shares, while £1.75 billion went into the investments by the new owners in the club's development.
