
The Gabon Football Federation (FGF) announced the death of national team forward Aaron Boupendza, who played for Chinese Super League club Zhejiang Professional.
The tragedy occurred on April 16 in Hangzhou. Boupendza fell from the 11th floor of an apartment tower. The exact circumstances of the incident remain unknown.
FGF has extended condolences to the forward’s family and friends. Boupendza was only 28 years old.
Between 2016 and 2020, the forward was under contract with French club Bordeaux but never played for their main squad, spending time on loan at Pau, Gazelec, Tours, and Feirense. Boupendza also played for Turkish club Hatayspor, Qatari club Al-Arabi, Saudi Arabia’s Al-Shabab, Cincinnati in MLS, and Rapid Bucharest. Since February 2025, the Gabonese player represented Zhejiang Professional. Boupendza played 34 games , scoring eight goals.
On March 21, 19-year-old forward Ivan Martins of Portuguese Segunda club Oliveirense also died in a road accident.
