According to the press service of the Austrian Formula 1 team Oracle Red Bull Racing, Yuki Tsunoda will become the team’s driver starting from the Japanese Grand Prix, the third race of the 2025 season.
The 24-year-old Japanese driver, who has been racing in Formula 1 since the 2021 season, will replace New Zealander Liam Lawson at Red Bull, who struggled in the first two races of the current season and did not score any points.
Thus, Tsunoda will become the teammate of reigning world champion Max Verstappen from the Netherlands, while the 21-year-old Lawson will move to the Italian team Racing Bulls, where the Japanese driver had been competing since the start of the season.
On March 23, F1-Insider reported on this change. Additionally, Red Bull’s motorsport consultant Helmut Marko hinted at such a possibility in an interview on October 12, 2024.
It is important to note that the Japanese Grand Prix will take place from April 4 to 6 at the Suzuka circuit.
