Taiwan's Chunghwa Telecom will expand its LTE coverage and capacity using equipment provided by Ericsson.
Chunghwa will deploy LTE small cells as part of the expansion project, Ericsson . The vendor is Chunghwa's sole supplier for the LTE core network, including the evolved packet core, and a key supplier for RAN equipment in populated areas.
Ericsson will also support Chunghwa's efforts to develop value-added business services for enterprise customers.
In a statement, Chunghwa president of mobile Lin Kuo-Feng said the expansion project is aimed at meeting demand for LTE services.
“The rapid growth of 4G subscriptions has exceeded our expectations. We see a huge data demand, and shifting consumer behavior to more data-centric services,” he said.
“We are pleased to keep leveraging Ericsson's global practices to offer the best-of-breed mobile network, advance user experience and to develop applications for enterprise customers.”
Ericsson estimates that 40% of the world's LTE traffic is carried over Ericsson networks. The company has rolled out 220 LTE RAN and EPC networks worldwide, and to date 170 of these have commercially launched.
