Ahead of the kickoff, an amber severe wind warning was issued by the Met Office for Merseyside from 1 am GMT on Saturday, with wind gusts of 60 mph to 70 mph likely. The wind and the rain were predicted to get worse before they improved, and supporters were also advised to keep a close eye on travel and weather guidance in their area to assist with travel planning for the Premier League fixture.
