Tommy Paul vs. Sebastian Korda Prediction: No Clear Favorites in This One!

The 29th seed Tommy On Monday, Paul met Spaniard Bernabe Zapata Miralles in the opening round. Paul found the chore of concluding the encounter quite difficult. The American was had to play five sets before winning 4-6, 6-3, 2-6, 6-0, 7-5. Paul has reached the second round of his home Slam for the first time.

This year, the 25-year-old has had some success. So far this season, he has 30 victories and 21 defeats. Paul reached the final stages in many events. He reached the quarterfinals of the Adelaide International 1, Adelaide International 2, the Mexican Open, Queen's Club Championships, Eastbourne International, Atlanta Open, and Canadian Open. He was also a semifinalist in the Delray Beach Open.

The American grabbed the spotlight after saving a match point against Carlos Alcaraz in the second round of the Canadian Open. He arrived at Flushing Meadows fresh off a second-round exit at the Cincinnati Masters against Denis Shapovalov.

Sebastian Korda, on the other side, has 23 victories and 16 defeats. Because of his inconsistency this year, the young American has entered the US Open as an unseeded participant. Korda had a career high of World No. 30 in May, but has since dropped to World No. 52.

This year, he reached the semifinals of the Estoril Open, the quarterfinals of the Delray Beach Open, where he failed to defend his title, and, most recently, the quarterfinals of the Citi Open.

In the first round at Flushing Meadows, Korda faced Facundo Bagnis. The 22-year-old did not have the easiest of victories, losing the opening set to the Argentine. Korda beat his opponent in the second set tie-break and then came back to win the match in four sets, 5-7, 7-6(3), 7-5, 6-1. Korda, like his fellow American, is making his maiden appearance in the second round in New York.

Paul is a dynamic player who will most likely strike wins with his strong forehand. The 25-year-old is a quick mover on the court who makes it difficult to get balls past him. He enjoys outplaying his opponents by extending rallies and pushing them into every nook and cranny.

Meanwhile, Korda will employ frequent volleying and net play to disturb Paul's rhythm and propel him ahead. He has a good service game that he will employ to win free points. The 22-year-old is an aggressive hitter who is likely to exploit his opponent's blunders with his clean strokes.

Although there is no apparent favourite in this match-up, Korda's results versus Paul may give him an advantage over his senior countryman.
