Benjamin Bonzi vs. Ugo Humbert Predictions: Would Their Similarity Make This Match Tough?

This year, Benjamin Bonzi was able to clinch another quarterfinal appearance, this time in Winston-Salem. He chose to play one more event before the US Open, and it was a solid performance in which he added two victories to his total before falling to Botic van de Zandschulp.

It was a tough encounter that concluded in two tiebreaks, demonstrating how difficult Bonzi is to handle on quick courts like these. His serve is a lethal weapon, and as long as it works, it's difficult to create many opportunities against him. His aggressive playstyle aims to conclude points fast, making it even more difficult.

Bonzi has a season record of 32-20, which is outstanding for someone who has mostly played on Challengers until lately. His hard-court level is just 6-9, but he is improving there as well.

He has never played in the main draw of the US Open, having lost twice in the qualifying. The draw placed him with Humbert, a fellow countryman who is quite beatable. He's popular, and for good reason.

Ugo Humbert was originally placed pretty high on the rankings, but terrible performance this year dropped him well outside the top 100. It has forced him to compete in challenger tournaments for the past few weeks, with mixed results. He typically dives deep, which is not surprising.

Most of his opponents are far inferior than he is accustomed to. Despite this, he has failed to win a challenger title in recent months, getting closest last week in Vancouver with a semi-final. He's 19-22, which is a fairly low score for someone who has been competing in Challenger tournaments for a week, but he's 13-8 on hard courts.

It's difficult to say what happened to Humbert, but he's always been a streaky player. It works sometimes and it doesn't, but his game never really evolved once he broke out. It was extremely difficult to counter once players found out how to play.

His highest finish in the US Open was the second round in 2020, as he generally lost in the first round.

Bonzi and Humbert are quite comparable players in several aspects, yet they are also very distinct. Benjamin has been playing much better tennis recently and this year in general, making him the overwhelming favourite in my opinion.

There is a chance he will lose this match, but I believe he will stand firm behind his serve. As long as he keeps it above 60%, this will be an easy win.
