Sigma Olomouc vs Sparta Prague Prediction: Hosts confident of holding the leaders

Andrův stadion will be the host venue for game 30 of the Czech Fortuna Liga between Sigma Olomouc and Sparta Prague. Sigma Olomouc are off a 2-2 draw with Slavia Prague the previous week, while Sparta Prague kept their unbeaten run intact against Ostrava. 

Sigma Olomouc had one of their best performances of the season against Slavia Prague the previous week, and even though they could not secure all points, they had be happy they come out with a draw. In that game, Sigma Olomouc were ahead in the 52nd minute through Jakub Pokorny’s strike before Pavel Zifcak extended that lead just 14 minutes later. However, despite their strong play, the Sigma Olomouc could not hold until full-time, and they saw themselves concede twice in the last 13 minutes of the game. It is worth noting that prior encounters to that draw had seen Sigma Olomouc win just one of their last four games, coming against Jablonec, a 1-0 encounter; however, other encounters ended in consecutive defeats.

Sparta Prague stood their stan last weekend and secured a much-needed 3 points against Ostrava. Sparta Prague had a three-goal lead in that game, with Veljko Birmancevic and Jan Kuchta netting for this side. However, their opponents, Ostrava, got one back with an own goal by Ladislav Krejci in the 54th minute of the game, but Lukas Haraslin restored Sparta Prague's three-goal margin. In the meantime, the poor defensive play did see Sparta Prague concede twice in the last 11 minutes of the game, but that was not enough to stop them from taking all three points. Heading into this game, Sparta Prague have won five of their last six games overall, with their game against Mlada Boleslav ending in a 1-1 in that run. Sparta Prague remain at the top of the league standings with 73 points from 29 league games, scoring 66 goals this season while conceding 25.

The last five matches between these sides ended in three wins for Sparta Prague, while Sigma Oloumuc had one win. In the meantime, one of the matches ended in a 1-1 draw in 2023. Sparta Prague scored six goals in those matches, while Sigma Oloumuc scored three. 

It is tough to rule anything out here after Sigma Oloumuc's last weekend performance against Slavia Prague and the number of goals Sparta Prague conceded the previous time out against Ostrava. In the meantime, Sparta Prague is the superior side in this game, and they have also dominated this fixture in the past; therefore, they should be able to win. While the games between these sides have produced less than three goals in five consecutive matches, I expect that trend to continue here, as both teams will look to avoid a defeat at all costs.
