Toulouse vs Nantes Prediction: Nantes will need a miracle.

There's a very important reason why Toulouse and Nantes would not want to drop any more points at this time of the season. Looking at the table, both clubs are only a few points away from the relegation zone and for clubs with serious ambitions of remaining in the Ligue 1, they need to start gaining points. At the moment, both clubs are struggling, but they have a shot at redemption. 

Toulouse will entertain Nantes at the Stadium de Toulouse for their second meeting in the Ligue 1. Toulouse had already beaten Nantes on their own ground and they hope to do the double as the battle for Ligue 1 survival intensifies.

Toulouse has been plagued by inconsistency for quite a while and that's the major reason they find themselves closer to the relegation zone at the moment. They had an extended poor run of results since October last year until January this year. During that time, they went on a 10-match winless run after their 3-0 win over Metz on the 1st of October 2023. The run ended with a narrow 1-0 win over Metz FC last month and after the win, they lost 2-0 against RC Lens in the next game. But in their last match, they won against Stade Reims by 3-2 scoreline. 

Toulouse had an interesting first 45 minutes against Stade Reims, where they scored all 3 goals and did not concede. Christian Mawissa, Shavy Warren Babicka and Thijs Dallinga were responsible for all 3 goals in the first half. But in the second half, Stade Reims were able to pull 2 goals back through Teddy Teuma and Sergio Akieme, bringing the score to 3-2 at full time. 

The Toulouse fans would hope the win over Reims would inject a surge of confidence on this side and spur them to another victory against Nantes. At the moment, Toulouse are in 12th place with 20 points from 20 matches. 

Nantes are fighting for their lives at this point in the season and it's a battle they appear to be losing by each passing week. It's been more than 1 month since they recorded a win in the Ligue 1. Since then they had been on a 6-match winless run, resulting in 5 defeats and 1 draw. With the results not going their way at this point of the season, the anxiety is building as the team intends to avoid getting relegated at all costs.

Last weekend, they lost against RC Lens at home by a single goal. Despite keeping things tight throughout the first half, Nantes conceded from David Pereira da Costa's strike in the 48th minute and they could not equalize for the remaining parts of the game. They were not far behind in terms of statistics, as they had 42% possession, 2 shots on target and 2 corner kicks in the game. But it was yet another disappointing night for the team.

Next up for Nantes is a trip to Stadium de Toulouse and only one result would make sense for this team and that is a win. At the moment, Nantes are in 14th on the table with 19 points in 20 league games.

It would be a big result for both clubs and neither wants to lose.
