Benin vs Nigeria Prediction: The guests stand a better chance against their neighbors

The Cheetahs will lock horns against Nigeria at the Felix Houphouet Stadium on Monday. Having failed to win any of their last three games in this competition, the Super Eagles of Nigeria can’t afford to drop points when they face off against their neighbors tomorrow.

The Cheetahs secured their first victory since 2022, defeating Rwanda (1-0) on their ground. Dokou Dodo's first-half strike was enough to secure them a much-needed win over an average Rwanda team. 

Before then, they had bowed to a (2-1) loss away from home to South Africa and settled for a toothless stalemate against Lesotho.

Benin Republic have won one game over their last nineteen games, and a defeat here might cost Gernot Rohr his job.

The Super Eagles settled for a stalemate here as they couldn’t defeat South Africa. The visitors got the first goal courtesy of Themba Zwane, while Nigeria responded after the break. The game, which produced lots of goal-scoring chances, was the Super Eagles' third game in this competition without a breakthrough. 

Nigeria who wrapped up the AFCON Tournament as the second-best team, dropped two places in the recent FIFA rankings. Nigeria have drawn their last three games in this campaign against Lesotho, Zimbabwe and South Africa. The Super Eagles are fifth on the log, and to stand a chance of finishing at the top of the standings, they must secure the maximum points against Benin Republic.

The Super Eagles have been below par lately, and anything aside, the maximum points might end their ambitions of winning the group. 

Nigeria have won their last three meetings against Benin; however, they head here with another stalemate on their ground against South Africa. The giants of Africa have struggled recently and they can’t afford to drop points against a Benin team who are sky high in confidence after their recent win over Rwanda. Benin have named a strong side for this clash, which includes Akinyoola Samson of Zamalek, Tosin Aiyegun, and Olaitan Junior, to mention a few. However, the guests possess more firepower than their counterparts. 

Nigeria are expected to see off the home team, who have won just one game since 2022.
