Michael Smith vs. Gerwyn Price: Michael’s Chance to Vanquish the Number 01

The 3rd Night of the 2022 Premier League is on 17 February at The SSE Arena, Belfast. Four seething games are scheduled for this tournament, one of which will be between Michael Smith and Gerwyn Price.

The English dartist Michael Smith has played at the PDC events since 2008. His Current World Ranking is 5, and he has earned 8 titles during the Pro Tour. Smith made it to the semi-finals of the UK Open, Grand Slam, European Championship, and the Champions League. He was a runner-up when Rob Cross defeated him 18-13 and claimed the World Matchplay title. Unfortunately, Michael hasn’t been victorious in any of the World Championships yet but was a runner-up twice, losing to Michael van Gerwen 7-3 in 2019 and Peter Wright 7-5 in 2022. In the Premier League 2022, Smith has been opposed in 2 matches by Peter Wright and Jonny Clayton and has lost with scores 6-3. However, in the World Masters January 2022, he beat Krzysztof Ratajski 10-6. After two continuous defeats, Michael will be in search of a good win to regain confidence. Hence, Gerwyn can look forward to a good fight. 

The World’s number one darts player Gerwyn Price has a record of some great victories and definitely counts on gaining some more. Last year he won the World Championship title defeating Gary Anderson 7-3. The Grand Slam winner earned the title in 2018 and retained it till 2021 and also won the World Grand Prix and the World Series Finals in 2020. This year’s Premier League Gerwyn caught a victory over Gary Anderson 6-3. His achievements shed light on his capabilities and the fact that he is a strong menacing to Michael.

Gerwyn and Michael have played 12 games in the past five years, and the winning scale leans towards Gerwyn with 7 successful games. However, the last match they competed in was won by Michael 5-4.

As much as Smith will be ready to beat Gerwyn, he will probably face a similar level of resistance and opposition. Moreover, since Gerwyn is leading the head-to-head but was defeated in the last game, he will try to regain his winning streak in the next chance he gets.
