Cleveland Guardians vs Chicago Cubs Prediction: Tough test for inconsistent Guardians

The Progressive Field will host the Major League Baseball action between the Cleveland Guardians and Chicago Cubs. The last series between these teams ended in a win for the Cubs. Can the Guardians take something out of this one?

The Cleveland Guardians kept struggling and suffered a run of defeats for the first time this season. Coming off a series loss to the Baltimore Orioles and the Arizona Diamondbacks, this team went on to lose their first two games against the Minnesota Twins. However, they ended the series with a split win, thanks to 1-2 and 3-5 wins in games 3 and 4. In the meantime, the Cleveland Guardians record has worsened, as they now hold a record of 69-49, which saw them move to 3rd in the standings. 

The Chicago Cubs are in fine form, and they will hope to keep things rolling. The Chicago Cubs took on the Chicago White Sox in their last series and enjoyed a sweeping win. In a quick two-game encounter, they secured a 6-7 victory in the opener and 1-3 in the second game. However, the Chicago Cubs have a record of three consecutive series wins, two others coming against the St. Louis Cardinals and the Minnesota Twins. The Chicago Cubs head into this opener with a 59-60 record, leaving them seated 10th in the National League. 

Despite the Chicago Cubs ' good form, I will take the Cleveland Guardians in this opener. The Cleveland Guardians have shown they can do and undo this season with their overall season performance. On the other hand, the Chicago Cubs are on a good run, but with the Guardians expected to do better after a number of less-than-par performances, I think the Cubs will lose here in what should be a low-scoring game.
