Ngannou Opens Up About Surviving in North Africa: We Went to the Market for Trash

Former UFC heavyweight division titleholder Francis Ngannou of Cameroon told a story about how difficult it is to survive in the North African desert.

Sport Bible quoted Ngannou as saying:

What you eat is everything that you find. Sometimes there are people that can make a trap and try to get some animals. But for the most part we will wait for night-time to go to the market because the undercover police are always around. We will wait for night-time to go to the market for the market trash and then find rotten stuff like that they throw away whether it's tomatoes, potatoes or chicken legs because they didn't eat chicken legs.

Ngannou will fight against Renan Ferreira on October 19 at the PFL tournament.

Ngannou, 37, last fought under mixed martial arts rules in January 2022 at UFC 270, defeating Ciryl Gane by unanimous decision. He has 17 wins and three losses on his record.

Ferreira, 34, last stepped into the cage in February 2024 at the PFL/Bellator co-main event, defeating Ryan Bader by first-round TKO. He has 13 wins and three losses on his record.
