The head coach of the Spanish national team Luis de la Fuente commented on his team's victory over Italy in the group stage match of Euro 2024.
The Guardian quotes de la Fuente as saying:
I would like us to appreciate how difficult it is to nullify a great team like Italy as we did today. There is a long way to go but we are on the path. I would like there to be recognition for this generation of magnificent footballers. For me, they’re the best. The only thing I don’t know is where our ceiling is. It pleases us that people think we can get to the final but we will go step by step.
As a reminder, the encounter ended with a narrow 1-0 win for Spain. Under the guidance of Luis de la Fuente, the team is leading Group B with six points, securing their place in the Euro 2024 round of 16.
Italy is currently second in the same group with three points. In the final match of the group stage, Spain will face Albania, while Italy will meet Croatia.
Italy's head coach Luciano Spalletti praised Spain's good physical preparation in this match.
Spain's midfielder Nico Williams was named the best player of the game.
