Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola shared his thoughts on extending his contract with the English club until 2026 with an option to prolong for another season.

Guardiola said to journalist Fabrizio Romano:

Why did I stay? I felt I could not leave now, simple as that. Don’t ask me the reason why. Maybe the four defeats were the reason why and I felt I cannot leave.

Guardiola has been at the helm of Manchester City since 2016. Under his leadership, the club has won the Premier League six times, the FA Cup twice, the Community Shield, the EFL Cup four times, as well as the UEFA Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup.

The previous contract for the 53-year-old Spanish coach was set to expire at the end of the current 2024/2025 season.

In the Premier League standings, Manchester City currently occupy second place, with 23 points after eleven matches played.

Earlier, Guardiola stated that Manchester City's dominance in the league is not yet over.

Additionally, the 53-year-old coach commented on the team’s four-match losing streak across all competitions.
