FIFA President Gianni Infantino issued a warning against football players participating in betting, promising strict punishments for offenders in the upcoming season.
Infantino stated that the number of such cases continues to rise, emphasizing that players should refrain from gambling on any sports.
Infantino said during a speech in Paris:
The players know: obviously, they should not bet. When something happens, there are obviously investigations and very serious, very stringent decisions are made regarding betting. If someone committed an act against sports rules, it is obvious that there will be sanctions. Without talking about specific cases, players who are found guilty must be punished severely.
Throughout 2023, Sandro Tonali from Newcastle and Nicolo Fagioli from Juventus were caught betting and subsequently disqualified for varying lengths of time.
